Steve Whitehead is one of the leading British Realist Painters of our generation. A painter of landscape and cityscape. His work draws on diverse traditions, from American Photorealism to German Romanticism and English Surrealism.
Each painting is a composite of images, photographs, sketches and colour notes collected by Steve Whitehead on location and painstakingly re-produced on canvas back at the studio. Such is the degree of detail one painting might take two years to complete.
Steve Whitehead was born in Leicestershire. He studied at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth under the tutelage of artist David Tinker. Graduating with an MA in Fine Art. Whitehead continued his practice at the Courtauld Institute of Art.
Honoured by twice winning the Wales Open and prize winner for the Manchester Academy and Hunting Art Prizes exhibitions.
Steve Whitehead paintings are in the permanent collection of the Contemporary Art Society, Wales.
Steve Whitehead is based in North Yorkshire. He is married to the artist Paula Zimmermann reknowm for her canine/feline funky portraiture.
