Pauline Rigby is an artist based on Anglesey, working in oils on canvas and pastels on Clairfontaine Pastelmat. She trained in Portugal under the renowned artist Paula Rego, an experience that continues to inform her approach to observation, storytelling, and painterly expression.
Rigby’s practice centres on capturing character, movement, and atmosphere across a range of subjects, including portraits, horses, dogs, and seascapes. Her work is grounded in close observation yet guided by an intuitive and expressive response that brings depth and vitality and realism to each piece.
Her portraits aim to convey not only likeness but the individuality and presence of her sitters, while her equestrian and canine studies reflect a deep sensitivity to form, energy, and temperament. In her seascapes, Rigby explores the shifting moods of the coast, using colour, light, and texture to evoke the rhythm and power of the sea.
Working across both oil and pastel allows Rigby to adapt her technique to suit each subject, from the richness and layering of oil paint to the immediacy and softness of pastel. Influenced by her training as well as the natural world around her, she continues to develop a body of work that balances realism and technical skill with expressive interpretation.
