Hugo Platt comes from an artistic family, Mother and Father training at the London Royal College of Art . . . .Hugo's brother is a portrait artist, so it was almost a foregone conclusion that Hugo would follow in the family tradition.
However Hugo Platt's passion and talent was in another direction - photography. Starting as 'press photographer' for a local/national newspaper, he honed his skills both as photographer and printer. Becoming aware of the 'great' of the industry like Ansel Adams who developed the 'zone' system of negative exposure and of black and white printing.
Hugo Platt had found his media, and became one of those rare breed of photographers who can actually print his own images in the traditional manner of the great photographers such as Ansel Adams, Edward Watson. W. Eugene Smith. Terence Donavan.
Like these great masters who manipulated their black and white photgraphic prints to match the image in their head, of the picture they had taken. Hugo Platt works in the same way.
Most of Platt's work is shot on large format cameras, from 6x9cm to 10x8". The larger size negatives give an incredible amount of detail even in this day and age of digital imagery and mega pixels.
Exhibiting in the UK, South Africa and the USA, images by Hugo Platt are fast becoming to the level of the 'greats' who so inspired him. Conde Nast Traveller, The Royal Geographical, British Journal of Photography and Photo Art International are using his urban and rural images.
