Michael Brown
Born: 1985 Aberdeen Scotland
Education: Edinburgh College of Art
Michael
Brown’s interest lies primarily with the theme of deconstructing and
reassembling the image of a person or place until it is stripped down to its
bare essence
The
desire to reinvent manifests itself in Brown’s curious sculptures, both carved
from and casted in raw beeswax. The busts of the two Maurice’s, each dripping
with layers of wax, depict a stranger and a friend, exploring the idea of
re-interpreting a character. While the stranger becomes more
familiar with the artist as he emerges through the wax, the friend is
objectified, and becomes a
different individual altogether.
