Isis Olivier
'Golfe de Napoli' 12 - 26 September 2009
Modern Artists Gallery is delighted to present a new selection of works by internationally renowned artist Isis Olivier. Recent shows by the artist have travelled around France so this presents an opportunity for English collectors to view her new works first-hand. The selection of paintings on show in Whitchurch on Thames reveal a captivating new approach to the female nude and the landscape. Isis Olivier has long been associated with figurative drawing and a recent commission to illustrate a collection of love poems gave form to the current group of works. Working on old maps, Olivier has created a series of languorous nudes that unfold themselves across the natural landscape, their form dictated by the sinuous lines of coastlines and their rocky outcrops.
The exhibition comprises sixteen collages featuring both canvases and works on paper. Prices range from £275-£2,200. and the gallery offers the Arts Council ‘Own Art’ repayment scheme for any collectors wishing to pay over a period of time.
Isis Olivia was born in Tanzania in 1967 and has been living in southern France since 1995. Her painting is largely figurative and the nude has always been central to her work. Isis illustrated 'Au lieu des corps) by Pasca Rebetez (Éditions Encre et Lumière September 2008) a collection of love poems: (available to purchase from the Modern Artist Gallery) This
project was the starting point for this most recent series 'Golfe de
Napoli' maps of the body.
Isis is a founding member of the artist's association 'Filature du Pont de Fer' which organises cultural and artistic events in the Gard, Languedoc-Roussillon.
