After graduating Daniel Syrett produced fabric designs for International fashion houses, an influence clearly discernible in his distinctive “Skulls” and “Butterflies” collections.

“I like to take an image which people have strong feelings about and manipulate it so it becomes something else, something unexpected.” he says. “My Butterflies collection best illustrates that chrysalis process.”

Daniel Syrett remains heavily influenced by the repeat pattern designs of his early fashion career and gains inspiration by the juxtaposition of perceived opposites, such as life and death, harshness and delicacy, strength and weakness, creating mesmeric optical illusions in the process.

Images are printed on Hahnemuhle Fine Art paper using archival quality UV stable pigment inks.   Each print is handworked and signed by Daniel Syrett.

Daniel Syrett is visiting lecturer at John Moores, Liverpool, The Jacob Kramer College in Leeds and the University of Wales in Cardiff.
