Button Series
Kate Kessling is an exciting new artist working in a broad range of
media. She has long been fascinated with buttons and has one of the
largest collections of buttons in the UK. Her ' button pieces' are vast
mosaics; each piece containing over two thousand individually sewn
buttons.
Using the latest in high resolution digital printing, Kate Kessling has
discovered a new and vibrant technique with which to produce her button
images. Each print is produced in a small edition on Fine Art paper to
Archival standards by Contrary Press.
SculptureThe Dog series evolved from constructed textiles sculptural form metamorphosed from wood, clay, paper, silk and earth pigment.
The delicacy of these sculptures, brought about by the alchemical process by which she arrives at form and texture, have led Kate Kessling to search for different ways in which to make her work more permanent.
The source material for most of the work is anthropological: "I find inspiration in the skills and invention of early man."
