John MacAulay graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 1990 and from The Royal College of Art in 1993, specialising in Printed and Mixed Media textiles. His working practice includes Painting, Printmaking and Textile Design.

His paintings are inspired from observations of urban and domestic life and form a narrative; they are captured moments from actual events and mixed with remembered ones, depicting people in ordinary everyday settings. The daily mundane activities we all do or see.

MacAulay has recently been using his working practice as a reference and inspiration for his paintings, Work In Progress II and III, are examples of this narrative, depicting a day in the studio, either busy working or looking for inspiration and in The Collection the work references his design practice; creating printed and embellished garment shapes for the fashion market.

This narrative approach has also been extended to his practice as a successful  Award Winning textile designer and has recently been creating a collection of narrative based printed textiles for the world interiors market.

Exhibiting regularly with London galleries, among others Lena Boyle, Neville Contemporary, Modern Artists Gallery, StART Space, Pryory Art, Cadogan Contemporary, Thompson’s and Macgregor Fine Art, as well as mixed exhibitions in Glasgow, Oxford, Bristol, Edinburgh Miami and New York,  John MacAulay's work is also included in The Fleming Collection, London and other private collections.
