This series of recent paintings is about the darker side of our psyche.  In the doll pictures, normally playful objects, are removed from their usual environment, and given a twist, as they are in ‘One Night’, where the two dolls gaze vacantly at the viewer, while the third doll sits with its bloodied head on the ground.
I like the juxtapositions of innocence and barbarity, mundane and the spiritual, orthodox and pagan and the prosaic and magical.
I am a person that dislikes pretence and artifice, and I believe my paintings go beyond the superficial. Annabel Hewitt 2008 Modern Artists Gallery.
