Press Release: Paintings Textiles and Other Works
Paintings Textiles and Other Works brings together six Berkshire based artists:
Rebecca Swainston, Janet Shrimpton, Kate Kessling, Gillian Trotman, Justine Holt and Jacqueline Able.
+ Emma O’Rourke who is UK born - now living in Washington.
Seven artists who have put Berkshire on the map for cutting edge Contemporary Art.
Rebecca Swainston’s paintings on gesso board arrest you with colour before you even consider the intriguing narrative content.
Janet Shrimpton’s wistfully, romantic, soft chalky portraits again on gesso board, deeply etched, each with the hint of an ancient fresco.
Kate Kessling Conceptual work – The humble button becomes a powerful image.
This series of four Button Works need not be buttons,. Think rare Chinese vase, Royal Doulton Flambe or maybe Wymess Pottery (as suggested by James Harris) .
HABITAT recognized Kate Kessling's talent as we did. Soon we will be seeing more of Kate Kessling images & designs on a global scale.
Jacqueline Abel paints small but powerful images. Later we will be showing her landscape paintings.
Gillian Trotman - Conceptual artist. Every one who views this work: 'How did she do it- let alone think of it'. This is rare sculpture and the finished quality of Gillian Trotman's work is exceptional.
Justine Holt paints flowers - Each painting has an almost enamel finish. The background is bare and luminous joined by the often lonely looking but beautiful single stem
flower. Justine Holt is avaialble for commission work.
Emma O’Rourke‘s paintings complete this exhibition of seven artists A new artist for Reading via Washington - who is as passionate about her work as we are. ‘Nana’s Roses’ a soft gentle ultra feminine painting.
