Alexander Shibniow
I was born on January 2, 1962 in the city of Minsk, Belarus, into a family of artists.
Ancestor of our family dynasty was my great-grandfather  Damian Shibniow
(1881-1929), who was a disciple of the famous Russian artist  Ilya  Repin.
Since my childhood I have been surrounded by painting.
After finishing the Art College I continued to work as a  professional painter and was carried away by a still life.
I enjoy making up compositions and see beauty in the simplest objects, which surround us. To convey static character and serenity of this world of objects, I use laconic color and composition solution.
I want my works to give a man the feeling of balance and calmness. The same goal is pursued while working at my compositions on wooden boards.
In 1993 I became interested in the works of the  ancient masters who had painted on wood. The wood attracted me always as a material of the nature itself, which keeps the warmth of a passed life. It adds a specific sense and creates a sensation of ancientry to painting.
My compositions and plots have no main characters, they are serene and static. The most desirable and important to me is to express the spiritual harmony of a man with the world of objects surrounding him. AB 2008

Alexander Shibniow lives and works in Minsk, Belarus with his wife Irina Moigis.
